OEM Beverage Project Guide

A practical step-by-step guide for beverage brands, importers and distributors moving from an initial product concept to formula and packaging review, sampling, quotation, production preparation, quality coordination and shipment.

Stage 01

Build a complete beverage project brief

The first review should define the product as a system rather than a product name alone. Formula, process, package, market, quantity and schedule affect one another.

  • Beverage category and intended positioning
  • Formula status and flavor direction
  • Carbonation or other relevant product conditions
  • Container, capacity, closure and decoration
  • Estimated first order and repeat demand
  • Destination market and target schedule
Stage 02

Assess formula, process, package and market together

Review area Key questions Expected output
Product What is the beverage, flavor target and formula status? Defined product direction and open formula items
Process Which production and filling conditions may apply? Applicable assessment route and compatibility questions
Packaging Which container, capacity, closure and decoration are intended? Packaging specification direction and artwork requirements
Market Where will the product be sold and through which channel? Destination-specific information and document questions
Commercial What quantity, schedule and delivery terms are required? Inputs for quotation and production planning
If a critical input is missing, the correct next step may be technical clarification rather than an immediate quotation.
Stage 03

Choose the correct sample and quotation route

Existing Direction

Reference product review

Use when a catalog product is close to the intended beverage and the main task is confirming specification, package and commercial fit.

Buyer Formula

Formula transfer assessment

Use when the buyer has a formula that must be reviewed against processing, packaging and destination requirements.

Development

Formula or flavor development

Use when the target product is defined but formula development or adjustment is still required.

Before approving a sample

  • Record the sample identification and formula version
  • Confirm the evaluation conditions and decision criteria
  • Document feedback precisely rather than using only “good” or “not good”
  • Separate sensory approval from packaging and production approval
Stage 04

Release formula, specification and artwork deliberately

Formula Approval

Confirm the controlled formula version and any remaining conditions.

Product Specification

Record relevant product, process, packaging and quality requirements.

Artwork Approval

Approve content, dimensions, print files and destination labeling separately.

Commercial Approval

Confirm quantity, price basis, terms, schedule and shipment responsibilities.

Technical artwork review does not replace the buyer’s legal and regulatory review of claims, ingredients, language, nutrition information or destination-market labeling.
Stages 05–06

Coordinate production, quality release, packing and shipment

Material Readiness

Confirm formula and packaging inputs.

Production Plan

Align route, quantity and schedule.

In-Process Checks

Apply agreed inspection scope.

Finished Review

Review records and release status.

Packing

Confirm packout and labels.

Shipment

Coordinate documents and delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

OEM project planning questions

Can I request a price before my formula and package are final?
A preliminary discussion may be possible, but a reliable quotation requires enough product, packaging, quantity, destination and schedule information to define the applicable scope.
Which comes first: formula development or packaging selection?
They should be reviewed together. Formula and process conditions can affect package suitability, while the chosen package can affect production and commercial planning.
Does sample approval mean the order is ready for production?
No. Final formula, specification, artwork, packaging, commercial terms, production requirements and approvals must be completed before release.
How should I verify the production facility and documents?
Check the facility legal name, location, product and process scope, packaging compatibility, document holder, validity and relationship to the approved project.
What causes delays in OEM beverage projects?
Common causes include incomplete briefs, formula changes, slow sample feedback, artwork revisions, packaging lead times, missing market requirements and late approval of commercial or shipment details.
